Greyhound Outreach hand matches a greyhound to each application that comes in. However, sometimes greyhounds come in that are considered Special Needs: special needs may only be that the grey is slightly older than the average 2-5 years, it may be a minor injury or health issue. We will feature any available special needs hounds here.

Senior greyhounds... a Special treat! Many people know that a racing greyhound retires between 2-5 years old after they become too slow, or are injured on the track. A greyhound that wins, or shows winning traits is subject to a different sort of life. There is no retirement for these dogs. After a successful racing career, these greyhounds head to farms where they are put to stud or used as broods, often for years. At 8, 9, 10, and even 11 years old, these dogs --no longer able to birth large and substantial litters of puppies-- have outlived their money making capabilities and are discarded. |

Would you be interested in adopting a retired stud or brood? These dogs --no longer of any value to the racing industry-- are some of the most gentle, and worthy greyhounds you will ever know! While they may be gray in the face and a little slower than their younger brethren, the retired stud or brood deserves to spend their remainder years safe and loved. You would be amazed at the loyalty and joy they bring to their families!
